Flat Stats
To remove ability scores from 13th Age, we have decided to give out a default array of modifiers for player characters. We call this system Flat Stats. The system is as follows:
-
If you have only one class, +5 to attack, damage, and initiative
- If you are multiclassing, +4 to attack, damage, and initiative
-
+3 to one defense
-
+2 to two defenses
-
CON is considered +3 when determining HP and Recovery Dice. Anyone may choose to treat their CON as 0 or -1 for determining HP and Recovery Dice to avoid any penalties that may result from having a positive CON modifier. If you set your CON to -1, your CON counts as negative for any effect that requires this trigger.
Needless to say, these bonuses are given IN PLACE OF attribute modifiers, not in addition to.
At Champion and Epic tiers, double and triple, respectively, the bonus to damage that you receive from Flat Stats.
At Champion and Epic tier, increase one bonus by 1.
For abilities, like Smite and Ki, that determine their number of additional uses with an ability modifier, use the bonus to your attack.
Difficulty Checks
The default system for background checks is 1d20 + Attribute Modifier + Background + Level. With the removal of attribute modifiers, the normal DC chart would no longer function properly. As such, we have prepared a new DC chart: essentially, it reduces normal DCs by 5.

Original Verision
We have updated this house rule. Some may prefer the original to the update so we have reprinted the original here:
